HMA were approached to replace an old pool house with a new one, more sympathetic to the local context, and with updated facilities. The design, although modern in detailing, adopts the materials of the local vernacular – with cotswolds dry stone walls and cotswolds stone tiles. Large doors open to form a route through the building, connecting the pool to the garden, off which changing rooms, a WC, steam room and sauna are accessed. This small project was a pre-cursor to a larger house for the same client in the same site, and also served a useful purpose in ‘testing out’ construction details in real life which could then be applied to the larger project.
